Frank August Case Study: 01 Mizunara Oak Bourbon

For the inaugural edition of their experimental Case Study series, Frank August selected five barrels of KY bourbon and finished them in toasted Japanese Mizunara Oak barrels.  They were then blended and botted at 114.4 proof.  The nose opens with clove, nutmeg, and allspice along with a sandalwood scent common to Mizunara finished whiskies.  On the palate, sweet butterscotch leads the sip, followed by baking spices, caramel, and rich oak.  The baking spices linger through a long finish that also features a touch of caramel sweetness and drying oak.
