Plantation Guyana 2008 Red Pineau des Charentes Single Cask Rum
This pot still rum was distilled on the legendary wooden Port Mourant still and then aged at its home in Guyana for 9.5 years in ex-bourbon casks, before being purchased by Maison Ferrand and transported to France, where it aged a further 1.5 years in Cognac casks. Being part of Plantation single cask collection, it is then subject to tertiary aging in barrels that previously held Pineau Des Charentes. The rum was bottled at 47.6% abv, with 14 grams per liter of added sugar, or dosage.
On the nose there is Old Pineau des Charentes, assorted nuts, rancio, wax, earth, cocoa, and ends with green and fruity tones like sloe berries. The palate is dry and slightly acidic, with apple, walnut and peanut, balsamic and old cask notes, lily of the valley and pungent flowers. The finish is nutty and chocolatey.
