La Cigarrera Amontillado Sherry
Intense nose with high fruity notes of orange peel and golden raisins. Lots of nutty notes (almonds, walnuts), straw and caramel candy. Light herbal notes and warm wood. The Manzanilla provenance is easy to notice. A smooth entry starts on dried fruits and flowers, with a vague sweetness. It gains intensity over time, growing salty with coastal notes of sea breeze and iodine. Light resinous touches. Long, juicy aftertaste on dried fruits and fine oak. This Amontillado is a minimum of 6 years old. Produced from the palomino grape variety; it is fortified up to 17%. It spends the first four years of its élevage under flor and a further two years aging oxidatively.
Bodegas La Cigarrera is located in the heart of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. La Cigarrera began life as an almacenista operation in 1758. The current bodega housing their solera of 500 barrels was started in 1891 in a former convent. La Cigarrera is a tribute to the cigarette/tobacco women who used to sell on the sidewalks of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The quality of La Cigarrera is based on the exceptional raw materials and the location of the winery.
