Rolling Fork 9 Year Single Cask Barbados Fourquare Rum

$79.50

Rolling Fork was founded by friends Jordan Morris and Turner Wathen with the intention of sourcing great rum from around the world, free of any additives, with a particular eye to the whiskey drinking palate. Both from Kentucky, Turner even hailing from a long line of bourbon makers, they wanted to bottle rums that would successfully  expose the massive bourbon drinking populace to a wider world of spirits. Their first bottling, ostensibly made by accident, was a blend of Trinidad rum and rye whiskey, which they bottled as Fortuitous Union. They've since turned to bottling proper rums all on their own, at high proofs, re-casking them in first fill bourbon barrels to accentuate those spicy, vanilla, and woodsy notes that bourbon drinkers are so familiar with.

Sourced from the beloved Foursquare distillery in Barbados, a distillery that needs little background for most rum drinkers, but is certainly a great choice of rum to introduce bourbon nuts to the Caribbean. The rum opens with a vanilla heavy nose that brings cake frosting to mind, along with a subtle wisp of wood varnish and clove. On the palate it is recognizably Foursquare right off the bat, with plenty of stone fruit, berries, coconut, and hints of bittersweet cocoa. The re-casking certainly adds a layer of pure woodiness, but it is pretty well integrated, never totally covering the layers of fruitiness and delicate nature within. A stunning example of Foursquare and by extension Barbados rum, effortlessly sippable at cask strength of 55.9% abv.
