Bourbon is a great category for value sippers, and even in that packed category, Old Grand Dad 114 stands out. There are lots of easygoing, sweet bourbons for this price, but this packs in both the richness and the high rye cinnamon/clove spice out the wazoo. It's kind of a holdover from the times when high proof bourbon was seldom sought out and simply gathered dust on the shelf or went home with drinkers who just wanted to get loaded. The secret is - they were also getting some of the best big bourbon character around as well! The cinnamon and clove are met by brown sugar, orange oils, juicy stone fruit, herbal rye, and peppercorn.
