Bardstown Fusion Series #4 Straight Bourbon
Bardstown Bourbon Co.'s fourth release in their fusion series continues their tradition of blending their own younger distillates with quite well-aged bourbon from another, unnamed Kentucky distillery. Though previous releases have toyed with employing some wheated bourbon into the blend, this one goes classic with all rye mash bill bourbons, including a particularly high rye mashbill. The exact breakdown is as follows:
40% 13 year-old Kentucky Bourbon (74% corn, 18% rye, 8% barley)
34% 4 year-old Bardstown Bourbon Co. (70% corn, 18% rye, 12% barley)
15% 3 year-old Bardstown Bourbon Co. (78% corn, 10% rye, 12% barley)
11% 3 year-old Bardstown Bourbon Co. (60% corn, 40% rye)
The nose is slightly smoky, but then reveals florals, apricot, cherry, and an easygoing sweetness that is hard not to like. On the palate, that sweetness is immediately present, with toffee, nuts, eucalyptus, and maple, with a lingering hazelnut finish. Bottled at 47.45% abv.
