G&M Glen Grant 10 Year Single Malt Scotch
Glen Grant was founded in 1840, by brothers John and James Grant, two former illegal distillers and smugglers who decided to get honest, take out a license, and start a proper distillery. With the sea nearby at Garmouth, the River Spey at its feet and barley-growing plains on their doorstep, all the basic ingredients of malt whisky were close at hand. They became renowned for their elegant and crisp whiskies, made so thanks to the prolonged and more thorough copper contact their tall and peculiar stills allow.
Since the 1930's, most of Glen Grant's most celebrated bottlings have come thanks to their close relationship with Gordon & MacPhail, independent bottlers who buy new make spirit from the distillery and age it in casks they have sourced themselves, both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry, the latter being held in particularly high esteem. This 10 year expression, bottled at 43% abv, is sherry matured and shows stewed apple and rhubarb aromas, with a touch of beeswax. The palate is orange peel, pear and apricot, with a lingering hint of cocoa and charred oak.
