Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 6 Single Malt Scotch
Glengyle is an independent, family run distillery based in Campbeltown, the historic whisky capital of the world. The original Glengyle Distillery produced whisky between 1872-1925 but in 2004, after 79 non-producing years, the distillery was reinstated by Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. This secured Campbeltown’s status as a whisky region.
Every stage of the production is carried out in Campbeltown. Crosshill Loch, situated on a plateau of Beinn Ghuilean, supplies fresh water to the distillery. The barley is traditionally floor malted at the sister distillery Springbank then transferred the short distance to Glengyle. All the whisky is matured and bottled in Campbeltown. It is produced in very limited quantities, as the distillery is in production for just 3 months of the year, filling approximately 650 casks annually.
The nose on this special heavily peated batch opens up to reveal citrus notes, vanilla cheesecake, rhubarb and custard sweets with delicate peat smoke. Freshly baked Bramley apple pie and sweet salted caramel greet you on the palate. The peat is prolific yet well integrated. A fresh coastal influence evokes memories of a blustery, busy, sea sprayed harbour. The finish is long and creamy. Notes of toasted oak and pencil shavings give way to a lasting sweet, fruity peat smoke. Bottled at 57.4% abv.
