L'Encantada XO Lot 2.0 Armagnac
L'Encantada started as a bunch of Armagnac loving friends who decided to do something about the fact that there was so much great undiscovered brandy consistently just being sold to negociants (large non producer houses) to be hidden away in boring, often young, watered down blends. So they started offering small estates a premium to retain some of their stock as single barrel, cask strength selections for them to bottle in their natural state, without any additives. They quickly made quite a name for themselves, showcasing impressive vintages from previously unknown estates, true Armagnac nerds' Armagnac.
The XO series, in partnership with the equally nerdy PM Spirits, showcases these unique brandies as a blend of multiple single vintage expressions. This second XO release is a blend of 5 casks, ranging in age from 22-35 years:
Domaine Lassalle 1990 -barrel #61
Domaine Lassalle 1984 -barrel #v2
Domaine Del Cassou 1985 - barrel #A1
Domaine Amblat 1988 - barrel #32
Domaine Bellair 1997 - barrel #36
The result is an Armagnac of terrific depth, retaining it's bright and juicy stone fruit loveliness while also demonstrating a darker, more oak driven element with notes of leather, clove, and dark chocolate. Alongside that, a sherry like, oxidized character brings to mind very old sherried Scotch, with nuts, dried fruits, and Christmas cake lingering on the finish. Bottled at a cask strength of 44.6% abv.
