Lock Stock and Barrel 18 Year Rye Whiskey
This 18 year old gem of a rye was double-distilled by Alberta Distillers, and then a “robust cut” was aged in new, charred American oak barrels in cold weather. These conditions give it a more subtle character than comparably aged Kentucky whiskies, which tend to be over-oaked after so many years in new oak.
The nose explodes with fruit: peach, apricot, honeydew, berries, and then is carried by spicy rye, tobacco, and cinnamon. On the palate, there are stewed peaches, wet tobacco leaves, apricots, rye spice, dark sweet cherry, maple syrup and cardamom. The finish is long, and doubles down on the maple syrup, with pine and barrel and rye spice. Bottled at 109 proof.
