Longrow 13 Year RED Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon Single Malt Scotch
Springbank Distillery's fantastic ongoing Longrow Red series is always a treat, with the variety of wine cask maturations lending fanastic bright and juicy fruit to the smoldering peated Longrow spirit. This bottling was aged 13 years, first in a mix of bourbon barrels and sherry hogsheads, then finished for the last three years in Cabernet Sauvignon casks from Mont Gras’ Intriga Estate in Alto Maipo, Chile. The result is an explosive array of flavors, lighting up your senses in such splendid Springbank fashion. The nose shows toasted oak and simmered fruit, followed by boozy red wine richness and some tingling, festive spice.
The palate is full of jammy fruit: sweet cherry and blackcurrant. The savory, Campbeltown salt and peat smoke stands up to the sweetness, keeping it interesting and surprisingly balanced. The finish takes a darker turn, with dark chocolate, tobacco, herbs, and lingering smoke. Bottled at a full but not overwhelming 51.5% abv.
