Mars Komagatake Yakushima 2021 Single Malt Japanese Whisky
Hombo Shuzo, the company behind Mars Distillery, produces many different styles of alcohol, starting with shochu in the early 1900s. Whisky production began in 1949 with the help of Kiichiro Iwai, a Japanese Whisky icon. Their primary distillery, Shinsu, is the highest altitude distillery in Japan, located high up in the Nagano Alps. The second is the Tsunuki distillery in Kagoshima, an island in the south of Japan.
A non-peated, cask-strength single malt whisky distilled at Mars Shinshu Distillery, which has matured in Bourbon Barrels at the Yakushima Aging Cellar, a unique aging environment located on the subtropical island of Kagoshima, which is covered in a cedar forest that contains Japan's oldest trees. This bottling is the 4th edition, bottled in 2021 with 5208 bottles being released. Vanilla sweetness with tropical fruits like banana and subtle hints of smokiness. Bottled at 56% abv.
