The majestic Chateau de Ravignan has been producing armagnac since the 18th century. They produce just 12-15 barrels a year, distilling the eau de vie to about 52% abv before the initial ageing in new oak barrels, generally for 2 years. After, the armagnac is transferred to used barrels, in the case of this 1983 vintage, for a further 34 years. On the nose, round, creamy notes and aromas of juicy plum, vanilla, rich toffee, and a luscious swirl of baking spice. Fantastic balance on the palate, with additional notes of crushed walnut, black pepper and a wisp of cigar smoke. One to get to know over time and ponder it's wisdom slowly. Bottled at a cask strength of 40.5% abv.
