The majestic Chateau de Ravignan has been producing armagnac since the 18th century. They produce just 12-15 barrels a year, distilling the eau de vie to about 52% abv before the initial ageing in new oak barrels, generally for 2 years. After, the armagnac is transferred to used barrels, in the case of this 1998 vintage, for a further 18 years. On the nose, aromas of red fruits, clove, vanilla, orange zest, and spicy, racy oak. Saucy palate, with notes of almond, stone fruit, oak and a zip of black pepper. The finish is mellow, with sightly dry oak, candied orange, and vanilla. Bottled at a cask strength of 43% abv.
