The majestic Chateau de Ravignan has been producing armagnac since the 18th century. They produce just 12-15 barrels a year, distilling the eau de vie to about 52% abv before the initial ageing in new oak barrels, generally for 2 years. After, the armagnac is transferred to used barrels, in the case of this 2008 vintage, for a further 11 years for a total of 13.
On the nose, there is vanilla bean, milk chocolate, candied lemon zest, prune, and allspice. The palate is viscous and shows amazing balance between toffee sweetness and slightly acidic fruitiness. Almond roca candies, licorice, orange zest, and deep juicy plum greet you before leaving a finish of milky coffee and spice. Bottled at a cask strength of 47.1% abv.
