While rum finished whiskies have become quite familiar to drinkers of the Scotch and Irish persuasions, in the US it is a much less explored variety of finishing cask. Redemption takes rye from MGP (made of 95% rye and 5% barley) and re-casks it in rum casks acquired from Plantation (which actually makes it Cognac-finished Rum-finished Rye...). Classic aromas of rye spice and cinnamon at first, with some dark molasses, vanilla, and oak. There is a faint hint of genuine rumminess on the tail end that lets you know this isn't your standard glass of Redemption, and indeed it isn't. The palate is viscous and warm, with lots of baking spice alongside brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, and orange peel. The finish is quick but sweet, with the rum influence being the last thing to leave. Bottled at 47% abv.
