Sagamore Manhattan Finish Rye Whiskey
Cocktail friendly spirits are one thing, but with this release, Sagamore reverse-engineered the flavors of a Manhattan using their rye and three first fill barrels: 53-gallon casks that previously held vermouth, bitters, and cherry brandy respectively. And while barrel finishing is an imprecise art, here they’ve hit the bullseye.
A sweet, maple laced nose gives way to hints of the spice, luscious orange citrus oils, and cherries to come. On the palate, the herbal laden entry announces itself as rye spice first but quickly softens into a pillow-soft vanilla and honey character with fresh orange peel, all of it quickly enveloped by deep, dark cherry notes. The same cherry and honey notes ride out the incredibly long and rich, yet refreshingly dry finish.
Aged 4-5 years and bottled at 103 proof.
