Yuzu Gin
YUZUGIN from Kyoya Shuzo represents a revolutionary fusion of Japan's legendary shochu tradition with contemporary global gin craft. Made from two vintage cuvées of Beni Satsuma sweet potato shochu fermented in traditional terracotta jars before distillation, this super-premium spirit is produced using ancient Japanese techniques of multiple parallel fermentations, coupled with vacuum distillation at low pressure below 100°C. The distillery, founded in 1834 in the heart of Miyazaki Prefecture, remains at the forefront of the global Japanese Gin movement while honoring its roots as a producer of authentic, high-quality shochu. Bottled at 47% ABV, this is gin with genuine character and depth.
A well-balanced, dry gin made from a sweet potato shochu base that results in extra body and a touch of sweetness, balanced by bright, tart notes from yuzu, exotic citrus, and sansho pepper. Locally sourced and extremely rare citrus fruits—hyuganatsu and hebess, both cultivated exclusively in Miyazaki summers—give YUZUGIN a remarkably unique flavor profile. The botanical selection includes juniper berries, yuzu, sansho peppers, local hebesu, local hyuganatsu, cucumber, ginger, coriander, and cloves. The result bursts with notes of juicy, sweet citrus, playful spice, and earthy complexity, with gently sweet character with bright, zesty fruit notes and crisp juniper, fresh and warming on the finish, with a prickle of peppery heat.
To fully appreciate YUZUGIN, enjoy it neat or over ice to savor its deep, delicate aromas, or use it as a base for refined cocktails paired with ingredients that enhance its unique flavors, such as premium tonic, a touch of yuzu zest, or a slice of fresh ginger. Pair it with light, delicate dishes such as sashimi, seafood, or citrus salads to enhance its sparkling, incomparable notes. This artisanal gin is a refreshing alternative to dry gin, perfect served straight up with tonic water or mixed in cocktails such as a gin & tonic or gimlet. This is Japanese gin craft at its finest—honoring centuries of tradition while leading the way into the future.
