Tanqueray No. 10 Gin

Tanqueray No. Ten Gin gets its name from being made in Tanqueray’s number ten still, which the distillery has nicknamed “Tiny Ten”. This small still was used as an experimental still for years before becoming the key still for Tanqueray 10 in 2000. At that time, this gin was a thoroughly modern thing, changing the landscape in the mainstream gin world, opening the door for what became known as "new western gin". These days it may come off as pretty traditional when compared to some of the truly of the wall gins being produced, but it remains a benchmark, and a robust and tasty gin in its own right.

The botanicals used in the original Tanqueray - juniper, coriander, angelica, and licorice - are elaborated with the bright and juicy flavors of fresh white grapefruit, fresh lime, fresh orange, and chamomile flowers. Though those may seem hardly new and bold flavors today, the result is a supremely vibrant and zesty profile that would have been nearly impossible when Tanqueray was first formulated in 1830's London and fresh citrus was hard enough to come by as a rare treat, let alone to source consistently for gin production. Even today the use of whole citrus instead of just the dried peels is rare, though not unheard of, and is certainly one of the key factors that makes this pitch perfect juniper-citrus duet a favorite of martini drinkers everywhere. Bottled at 47.3% abv.
