Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 Single Malt Scotch
Peat lovers rejoice with each of Bruichladdich's yearly releases of Octomore, one of the most heavily peated* malt whiskies available. The 16.1 release is distilled from Concerto barley grown on Scotland's mainland which was peated to 101.4 ppm. It as aged for five years in ex-bourbon casks before bottling without chill filtration or color added at 118.6 proof. Despite the young age, high proof, and heavy peat, this whisky brings a surprising depth and breadth of flavor. The nose offers bonfire smoke, damp earth, vanilla, citrus oil, and hints of dark cocoa. On the palate, charred pepper and ash evolve into vanilla, honey, and green herbs. The smoke returns on the finish, where it is joined by honey, vanilla, and earthy peat.
