Fathertime Bourbon: The Caboose

Fathertime Bourbon is the result of comedian Jim Gaffigan's bourbon habit-turned-obsession (he's even done a full stand-up special on the subject). Each edition is a limited release Kentucky Bourbon handpicked by Gaffigan that puts the standard Celebrity spirit to shame both in his level of involvement and the resulting quality of the product. Each batch is released in standard proof (46.2% abv) as well as what he calls "Empty Nester Strength" (60.5% abv), for those who crave a little extra kick in the pants.

We are thrilled to be able to offer the latest limited batch, "The Caboose", and to host Jim Gaffigan for a tasting at our San Francisco Store on June 14 from 12:30-2:30 PM. He'll be hanging out, talking whiskey, and pouring samples of both expressions of "The Caboose" batch. Just in time for Father's Day.

Our tastings can get crowded even on a normal day, so although this will be open to the public and free, entry may be staggered to accommodate turnout. Bottle quantities are also limited - purchase for store pickup now to guarantee your bottle and entry to the tasting.

So why Caboose? Per Gaffigan - "The youngest child in a large family holds a unique position. They’re the recipient of a distinctive focus from both parents and siblings. Just like the last car of the train painted bright red, they stick out. Some of the undeserved attention is positive and some of it is, well, annoying. But a caboose, like a large family, is increasingly rare these days. Both are worth celebrating, ideally with a good bourbon." That we can certainly agree with. Cheers!

Fathertime The Caboose — 92.4 Proof 46.2% ABV. Kentucky straight bourbon, proofed with limestone water. This is the approachable expression — soft and rounded, built around bakery sweetness rather than oak or rye aggression. Nose: butterscotch, melted brown sugar, vanilla custard, yellow cake, a hint of cinnamon. Palate: creamy caramel, honey-drizzled cornbread, butterscotch candy, gentle baking spice on the finish. Fathertime The Caboose — Empty Nester Strength 60.5% ABV. Unfiltered, straight from the barrel. 8+ years old. This is what the same distillate looks like with the water left out — oak-forward, concentrated, with serious structure. Nose: rich honey, dark caramelized brown sugar, seasoned oak, pie crust. Palate: bright caramel and brown sugar crashing into heavy rye spice, leather, roasted pecans, and seasoned char. Add a few drops of water and watch it open up, or don't. Limited Release   Shop →
