Home Base Bourbon - a safe bet for your new house whiskey
Home Base Bourbon is the perfect distillation for its name: a comforting, reliable choice to return to time and time again - dependable yet dynamic, familiar yet exotic, and supportive of whatever you add to it (particularly if it is a sweetener and bitters for an Old Fashioned).
Home Base Spirits is produced in Oakland and made by twin sisters Ali and Samantha; denizens of the art and sustainable farm world. Their background helps explain its lovely aesthetic and dedication to craftsmanship, but their skills help make it a local favorite.
Home Base Bourbon is a balanced and delicate grain-forward whiskey made with sustainably grown corn, rye and lots of malted barley.
The whiskey is aged in new American oak barrels, allowing the flavors from the high malt content - honey, maple and nut - to complement the caramel, toffee and vanilla notes typical of bourbons.
Made from local ingredients, we’re currently offering their Bourbons from Batch 2 (2016) and Batch 3 (2017).
Home Base Bourbon Batch 3 - Released March 2017
This batch's high malt content again highlights the graham cracker, nut and honey found in their beloved batch 2. But with the extra aged whiskey blended in for batch 3, the vanilla, caramel and brow sugar flavors come through strong on the front. A light cinnamon note from the rye balances the flavor.
With a bit of ice, it opens up the whiskey’s sweet side even more. They’ve noted that with a bit of breathing time the honey and caramel notes really pop.
Home Base Bourbon Batch 2, $47.50 - Released December 2016
Made with corn, rye and lots of malted barley this whiskey is aged in new American oak barrels at char 3 for 14 months, allowing the flavors from the high malt content - honey, maple and nut - to complement the caramel, toffee and vanilla notes typical of bourbons.
