The super sweet original cocktail had amazing flavors in play, but was out of balance. Dialing back the amaretto and adding s measure of Palo Cortado sherry takes the nutty factor a tad into the savory world and out of the purely dessert category. Dash some orange bitters for citrus brightness and you got a proper sequel on your hands.
