It's getting tougher and tougher to find a high enough ABV in a dry spanish style of rum that's ideal for the original daiquiri.
With the Caña Brava now discontinued and the Bacardi Superior Heritage nearly impossible to find ... along with the Probitas, the Banks 5 Island is going to be one of your better alternatives out there.
While the Banks 5 year does the job quite well, it's a blend of styles. So if you're the purist, you'll need to keep looking. The price is also a little on the high side for a white rum, but it's a quality rum.
This is my favorite rum for making Daiquiris. It's so smooth...it's like the Plymouth Gin of rums. A classy and sophisticated rum.
Give this to anyone with a low opinion of rum and it will instantly elevate their opinion. Highly recommended!
Used this rum for Barbados swizzled and a few other mixed drinks. We loved it!
