Bareksten represents the essence of Norway, in both taste and character – dark, wild, breathtaking and dramatic. The gin is an absolute flavor-fest, with 26 botanicals, 19 of which are local. The list goes on and on: juniper, coriander, blueberries, grains of paradise, fennel, rose hips, lime peel, rose flowers, cinnamon, caraway, cardamom, angelica, lemon and orange peel, orris, rhubarb, aniseed, nutmeg, red clover, lavender, chamomile, mint arnica flowers, elderflowers, lingonberries.
Bareksten is made in a single shot distillation. The citrus, rhubarb and a handful of flowers are suspended above the still in a vapor basket, where their flavors and oils are collected raw. The rest of the botanicals are added to the spirit for a full 24-hour maceration period. The 600-litre still is left to run slowly, taking nine hours to run in total. This allows for a smoother profile. Mouthfeel is key, achieved through the increased copper contact. The blueberries and other fruits play a part, too, allowing an almost gloopy texture to evolve on the tongue. Finally, the Norwegian potato base also helps with mouthfeel, providing a creamier sensation.
The gin tastes exactly as you would expect it to - of the Norwegian forest. The nose is vibrant and inviting with clear notes of fresh pine intertwined with enticing spiced undertones. It’s dense, dark and as much forest floor as it is budding spruce tips in spring. Tasted neat the fresh pine lashes at the senses once more, but here, it’s joined by a lovely fruit roundness, with blueberry contributing a soft, full mouthfeel. The finish culminates with a burst of caraway that lingers with mentholic intensity long after the sip.

I found this gin in Bergen, Norway and now keep it in stock. Best nose of any gin I know. Excellent with a sprig of rosemary or a strip of orange peel. I'm hooked.
Until this I wasn’t a fan of gin! Now I’m hooked and tell everyone about Bareksten!

This is one of the best Gins I’ve ever had. Tonic and a little fresh lime is perfection.
I've really enjoyed this in martinis – lately I've been splitting the vermouth half/half with Kina L'Aéro d'Or which works well with Bareksten as it can stand up to the stronger flavors of Kina.
I actually prefer Bivrost gin from Nord Norway.
Since it is not available I settle for Bareksten.

While traveling in Norway last year we had the opportunity to enjoy Bareksten Gin. It is a product of Norway and hard tofind in the USA. While in Norway, we found that most establishments garnished their GT's with an orange zest and squeeze vs. a traditional squeeze of lime as is done in the USA. It makes for an awesome new taste to a drink we have enjoyed for years. Cheers!
This is my favorite gin of all time. I was in Bergen, Norway (where this gin is distilled) and told a bartender to make me a G T with a local gin that he would recommend, and this is what he put in! I was floored, such a great botanical flavor, it tasted very earthy but also had nice floral notes. I cannot say enough about how much I adore this place and B B for carrying it. I am always recommending this to friends and buying it for other gin lovers to try. All of them have raved about it as well! If I could give 10 stars I would!
I was given a bottle from a Norwegian Friend this past December. I don’t drink any alcohol at all, never liked the taste of it, but this Gin is special. Pour it over an extra big square molded ice cube and Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic Water and you have yourself a million dollar drink. It’s a taste you’ll never forget, sophisticated all the way!
Thanks for carrying this boutique handcrafted gin. I love it!! gin and tonic will never taste the same again. Also fabulous on the rocks.
