Basil Hayden's Toast Small Batch Bourbon
For Beam's newest permanent addition to the Basil Hayden's line, the distillery has made some big changes, far beyond the superficial label and bottle alterations. The classic Basil Hayden's bourbon made it's reputation as perhaps the lone easy punching, lower proof option for high-rye content bourbon, sharing the same 27% rye mashbill as the Old Grand Dad, which in all of it's iterations expresses itself much more forcefully and deliberately than Basil's genteel nature. With this toasted barrel expression, we not only get the warm oaken toast element, but that 27% rye content has been directly replaced with brown rice, an utterly unique mashbill in mainstream bourbon.
The result is one of the coziest bourbons you could imagine, with aromas of cinnamon, buttered toast, burnt sugar, and a whiff of campfire smoke gently lifting from the glass. On the palate, toffee, almond, butterscotch, and leather lead to a gentle and dry finish. Bottled at 40% abv.
