Bogart’s Bitters holds a legendary place in cocktail history as the first bitters mentioned in the world’s first cocktail book, Jerry Thomas’ 1862 How to Mix Drinks. Often believed to have been a misspelling of Boker’s Bitters, it became one of the defining ingredients of the first golden age of cocktails and was even called for by name in an early Martini recipe from 1888.
The Bitter Truth recreated this historic formula using an exceptionally rare original bottle dating to around 1900. Rich and beautifully balanced, Bogart’s combines dark spice with deep chocolate and coffee notes for a complex, versatile bitter. The distinctive brown “lady leg” bottle and historic label have also been faithfully reproduced, bringing one of cocktail history’s most important bitters back to life.

First of all, these bitters are a great deal for being in such a large bottle. And the bottle is pretty cool - though I poured some into a smaller container that had a dasher. Note that this bottle doesn't come with a dasher or pouring spout, so grab one for a few bucks if you need one. These bitters are pretty complex, definitely more bitter than the aromatic angostura bitters most people are familiar with. Grab this while you can!
Worth the price!
Using it in every cocktail that calls for aromatic bitters. Delicious complexity. Highly recommended. Great service from BB. Hope they start shipping spirits out of state soon.
The included recipe book provides good inspiration, but the flavor can very easily worked into other cocktails.
Cant imaging how this went out of favor, Delicious in club soda.
Super versatile and brings a new twist to any cocktail you’d normally use Ango or other standard cocktail bitters. Great addition to my already overflowing bitters contingent.
