Product details
Empress 1908 Gin delights the senses with its balanced citrus-and-spice palette, brilliant indigo color, light floral fragrance and soft texture. Made in copper-pot stills using 8 botanicals, Empress 1908 is a collaboration between Victoria Distillers and British Columbia’s legendary Empress Hotel. Though it's a tasty treat for a Gin and Tonic just based on its profile, what really has made it famous is the addition of Butterfly Pea Flower extract, which reacts with any addition of acid, meaning it turns brightest pink upon the addition of tonic. Bottled at 42.5% abv.
- Complex and smooth, starts herbal/juniper then finishes sweet. Color makes cocktails look amazing.
- Tastes really freaking good. Color is all natural, and it changes color depending on the mixer.
- The flavor is way more complex than you might think with a subtle floral quality.

Was an amazing gin several years ago bit the gin market has progressed and left this one behind. Still a nice to have with the color to make some amazing drinks but look elsewhere for taste.
Enjoying this unique bottle of gin and I’m not really into gins. I find it be complex and smooth, starts herbal/juniper then finishes sweet. Not to mention the color is beautiful and makes your cocktails look amazing.
This is so funy Ginn !
I'll buy 1 more.
I’m going to offer a dissenting opinion here - I love the color of this gin. In a GT it’s particularly gorgeous. But as far as the taste it’s only so so. I tend to gravitate to the ‘bigger’ gins - Orbium, Monkey, any of the St. George crew - to set my reference palette. Empress has a bitter taste not at all consistent with the visual bouquet. I’d order Empress again, but it’s taste is not the reason why.
Great gin that doubles as a fun spirit for cocktails with guests!
Must have for the home bar. Impresses every guest, but also, it just tastes really freaking good. Love that it's color is all natural, and that it changes color depending on the mixer. My favorite is a simple gin and tonic - I recommend a squeeze of grapefruit juice, like the brand suggests. Makes a great gift as well. I always keep a bottle on hand.
Not only is it beautiful, but Empress 1908 makes the most delicious cocktails. I have shared Empress 1908 with those who claim they don't like gin and watch as they fall in love with it. It is a must purchase!
Besides the beautiful color, the taste is even more flavorful and beautiful in taste. It’s my first time trying any type of gin. It was so refreshing with no bitterness. I will definitely buy another bottle for myself as well as for friends as gifts
Thank you BB for carrying this unique gin from Victoria BC
This GIN…..is a must purchase!
Empress 1908 Gin is a collaboration between Victoria Distillers and the legendary Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia.
To make Empress 1908 Gin, the master distillery Peter Hunt, macerates the juniper, rose, coriander, grapefruit, ginger and cinnamon overnight in a mix of water and corn based spirit. The beautiful all-natural indigo color comes from butterfly pea blossoms post distillation as well as a signature blend of black tea served and the Empress Hotel.
Made these beauties for my awesome ultramarine-haired stepmom's 75th birthday:
1 oz Empress
¾ oz Luxardo Bitter Bianco
¾ oz Atxa Vino Vermouth Blanco
stir, rocks, lemon strip
(It's also fabulous with Salers Aperitif, skip the vermouth, dash grapefruit bitters.)
The color changing was fun...and the flavor was lovely in my Unicorn GT!
Beautiful color - a good party trick. The alcohol itself is smooth, but I’m a gin-lover so this felt flat. Will buy for parties for visuals but not necessarily something I’d buy for flavor.
Love love love this gin !! From the beautiful purple color when used as a martini to the amazing blue it turns when you add tonic...Also the different flavor it gives, I think from Teaberry
If you enjoy gin then I can't recommend Empress enough. Not only is it a beautiful indigo color but the gin changes to a pinkish hue when tonic is added. The gin isn't on the the super botanical side, it's mellow and makes for a good martini or GT.
Empress starts out a beautiful indigo color and changes when you add lime or lemon, and again when you add tonic.
That in itself is a nice ‘party trick’ but the gin makes a fantastic GT. The flavor is way more complex than you might think with a subtle floral quality. I feared that the butterfly pea blossom, which gives it the color change characteristic might just be a gimmick, but thankfully I was wrong.
Empress 1908 will keep a permanent position in my bar.
I bought the first bottle purely for the lovely color. Shared it with fellow gin lovers and ended up ordering three more bottles!
Perfect for my wife to drink and for my kids to watch me make. She loved the straightforward taste and they loved its royal color!
This was a surprise! This gin is multi versatile and can stand up to the strongest cocktail ingredients. I haven’t enjoyed a gin like this since we discovered those offered by Northshore Distillery in Chicagoland. Recommended!
