Hazelburn 10 Year Single Malt Scotch
Springbank distillery, perhaps the most cultishly beloved Scotch distillery among malt-heads, produces three different single malt whiskies: a 2.5 times distilled, lightly peated malt, a twice distilled, heavily peated malt, and a three times distilled, completely unpeated malt. Hazelburn is the unpeated, produced in a style rarely seen in Scotch, with the three distillations evoking the old Irish style, and producing a lighter bodied, fruity whisky.
The 10 year is aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv with no added coloring. The nose gives notes of stewed pears and baked apples, followed by honeycomb and fudge. The palate reveals a lovely and rich whisky with vanilla, honey, and a hint of liquorice followed with a refreshing citrus zestiness. The finish is long, unctuous, and swirling with milky chocolate.
