Isle of Harris's smooth, complex and refreshing spirit captures the maritime nature of its island home. Made in the small village of Tarbert, every drop is distilled in a small copper gin still known as 'The Dottach', before being bottled and sealed by hand. Infused with local Sugar Kelp seaweed alongside carefully chosen traditional botanicals, including juniper, cassia, coriander, angelica, bitter orange peel, cubeb, liquorice root, and orris root. The distillery worked with an ethnobotanist to analyse dozens of potential botanicals from the island’s moors and machair before turning to the sea. Sugar Kelp seaweed was finally identified as the key botanical, and it is gathered by hand by diver Lewis Mackenzie from sea-lochs around the Outer Hebrides before drying.
On the nose, there is at first a big classic hit of piney juniper, with bitter orange and grapefruit not far behind. The second wave arrives with floral notes of rose, herbs, coriander, and tart gooseberry, with a hint of both spice and briny maritime air. The palate is fairly assertive with the juniper, but it's the almost sweet fruitiness that wins the day, with juicy orange, grapefruit, and mango on welcome display. The finish shows some peppery sharpness and another hint of sea air. Bottled at 45% abv.

It's very lovely. The hint of kelp brings a bit a complexity without being overpowering. I find it works better in a drier martini. I would've liked a bit more juniper, but that's just my gin preference.
Fantastic distillation. Great with a slice of grapefruit and surely other, more creative oceanic, citric and aromatic accompaniments. One of my favorites, stacks up against just about anything. Ethereal joy springs gloriously from this textured and hued glass vessel... Etc. Etc.

I first tried Harris Gin while I was in Scotland. Hands down the best gin I’ve ever had. I can’t wait for it to become a liquor that I can purchase at my local stores. But, for now, I’m super happy to be able to get it at a decent price here at bitters and bottles.
We have friends who were at the distillery and texted us to share how much they loved this gin. We ordered it immediately. It is a truly beautiful gin. Served on ice with a grapefruit wedge, it is perfect. A bit of salinity and a bitter citrus finish make this gin a real treat. A sipping gin for sure. The bottle is a real stunner too. This would make a wonderful gift for a gin lover.

Isle of Harris Gin stands at the top of my short list of favorite gins. It is distinctively lovely on its own. The sugar kelp sets it apart! So thankful it is now available in the US!
Was lucky enough to have this some years back when it was first released in Scotland. Very popular there to the point where it was even hard to find in the Highlands! Harris Gin has a unique flavour, the presence of the sea coming from a special mix of botanicals coming from the island. So happy to be able to get this here in California! Makes a transcendent GT (pink grapefruit is the desired garnish) with a small amount of high quality tonic.
I never had a gin tonic that I liked before the Isle of Harris gin and tonic recipe that they shared. Plus I had their aromatic water to add to the recipe - heavenly, to say the least.
The gin is as exquisite as the bottle containing it. Juniper, citrus, and sweetness are married with a slight saltines. Each sip is better than the last. This gin can be sipped on or used in the best GT you'll ever have.
We discovered this gin while in Scotland a few years ago and it became our favorite. Unfortunately, until now, it was only available in the UK. Makes amazing GTs - pair it with a good tonic water. So happy it's now available at Bitters and Bottles
