Knob Creek B&B Private Barrel Rye Whiskey

One of the private barrels selected for the first quarter of our whiskey club - we're excited to finally share the remaining few bottles. If you are one of the folks who got to enjoy this one and inquired about getting an additional one, now's the time! If you haven't had the opportunity to try this staff favorite, grab a bottle from our first ever Knob Creek single barrel program pick. Though Jim Beam describe themselves as a bourbon producer, we really think they should pride themselves particularly for their Kentucky style ryes (made with a higher proportion of corn, lending sweetness), which managed to surprise us again and again with their depth of character and utter likeability. From their stellar standard bottling of Knob Creek rye, to the much lauded cask strength releases of the same, all the way to the impossibly rare and expensive Booker's Rye, these folks are masters of that great spicy grain.

The barrel of rye we went with (though seriously all of the ryes we tried were gems) opens with aromas of pancakes with maple syrup, pine, cooked banana, nutmeg, clove, and a wee hint of leather and oak. On the palate, there is black pepper, swirls of vanilla and chocolate, banana creme pie, and a cheeky smattering of sweet dark cherry. The finish is once again piney, with chocolate, more maple, and lingering oak. The nerdy nitty gritty: Barreled on 9/11/2015, aged for 5 and a half years on the fifth floor of warehouse X, rick 40, and bottled at 57.5% ABV.
