Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky has been churning out a steady supply of wheated bourbon (and nothing else) since its founding in 1953. They may occasionally vary the color of their wax by the season but what’s in the bottle of this red winter wheated bourbon hasn’t changed much in 66 years. Maker's 46 begins as the distillery's standard bourbon before heavily seared French oak staves are placed in just-emptied Maker's Mark barrels, which are then refilled and returned to the warehouses to finish aging for 2-3 months.
Clove and honey aromas burst out of the glass, cinnamon and a bit of charred citrus peel join for a chewier grain take on the original. Bottled at 47% abv.
