Product details

Mellow Corn is a Bottled-in-Bond corn whiskey from Heaven Hill Distillery.  Corn whiskey is regulated differently than bourbon: it must be at least 80% corn and, if aged, must be aged in used oak or uncharred oak barrels.  This lends the whiskey its lighter color and (ahem) mellower profile.  The nose presents sweet corn, light fruit, and a hint of oak spice.  The palate offers flavors of sweet corn, cotton candy, and light fruit with a nutty, oaky undertone.  The finish is sweet with vanilla and sweet corn.  Easy drinking and tasty, Mellow Corn is worthy of its (only slightly ironic) cult following.

It was mellow. It was corn.

That's really about it. It was easy to drink in reasonably small amounts, either mixed ok with most stuff or on its own. I felt like ice didn't really help it, but that might have been just me. If you were looking for a gentle introduction to bond whiskey, this wouldn't be a bad place to start.

Corny but the good kind of corny

This was bought in the place of white dog and had good flavor for the price.

Great Corn Whiskey at a Great price

Mellow Corn is an interesting change of pace when used in an old fashioned or try using for a milk punch (it taste like corn flakes).

A great intro to CORN

Nose: subtle vanilla, pungent hay, musty/corn, I think the odd note I am getting reminds me of wheat grass. Ethanol pretty tamed. Not exactly my favorite notes.

Palate: hay, subtle vanilla, almost tastes "dusty", subtle oak, definitely a grass note, bitterness is fairly in check, and to be quite honest the body on this is pretty decent for what it is. Its thin but not thin thin, ya know

Finish: Not much, this subtle dustiness flavor lingers in my mouth maybe small amounts of vanilla. The dusty note is note unappealing but its not my favorite note by all means. Surprisingly, it is some what dry on the end but not extreme.

Fine Hooch. Pours Easily.

As a drunkard of the lowest order, I find this whiskey palatable. Using my nose it smells like whiskey, and when mouth gets on it I feel my whiskey ticket punched. I purchase this whiskey an awful lot and when I do I use it all up pretty quickly with sours and those Old Fashioned cocktails you hear so much about, but ones with all the fruit and soda water - which I call Old Trashioneds, but you're free to call what you like. And popular ways to empty the bottle, both of 'em.

I like that this whiskey is a corn whiskey and it has corn in its name. The mellow is a little misleading. The corn is spot on. A little reading will set you straight when it comes to corn whiskey, but the meat of the bean is the 80% corn bill - in this case the 81%, which they just toss in there for no extra charge.

What's neat here, of course, is the BiB. This is classy hooch. Fine, government supervised moonshine that works its job and rarely asks for a raise outside inflation based adjustments. Does not come with a pension. And it doesn't leave you disgruntled. Conversely, and to the heart of the matter, this medicine leaves you quite well gruntled in point of fact.

One thing about the nature of coming in a bottle, opposed to a bucket or Tupperware, is that is pours with exceeding ease. No more scooping whiskey at your drink with a slotted ladle or tonguing at the troth in the pale, blue hued light beaming down upon you from the very crests of the moon.

Fine hooch. Pours easily.

good whiskey

This whiskey is very good, especially considering the price. I know it costs less to age than a bourbon, because of the difference in the barrels used, but I'm still surprised that a decent whiskey that's been aged at all can be bought for such a reasonable price. Plenty of completely unaged whiskeys that don't taste very good sell for as much, or often for more.

Yes

Most definitely worth a try, especially with a little fresh lemon juice and simple syrup (whiskey sour). I'll be back for more.

It’s Mellow and it’s Corn Whiskey

This whiskey is a good base for whiskey sours. I actually bought it to cocktail concoct with 2 other products I found @ Bitters Bottles, Chinola Passion Fruit Liqueur, and Fever Tree Aromatic Seltzer. It’s not a 5* whiskey to me personally. I’ve sipped on a small glass since it’s here now and it’s pleasant. It’s great on the nose where caramel and a dusty sack of corn do a little dance in your nostrils. It’s corn whiskey and it’s bottled in bond which makes a nice roll over the tongue with taste of frosted flaked and candy corn. I’d shot beer it with something hoppy like a classic IPA. Aside from all of this, the Mellow Corn bottle is such a clever original that if a bar or individual park it among other bottles some curious customers are going to want a taste.
