Old Forester Straight Rye Whiskey

Beginning my “bourbon and rye” education and gave this one a try. Much like overproof rum in a tiki, the Old Forester took some of the sweetness of the vermouth off and made for a delicious (and sneaky butt kicking) Manhattan!

This is a 100 proof, peppery tasting rye blend. I loved the service in the store helping me to choose a nice rye. I'll be back - soon!

Hands down one of the best, most flavorful rye whiskey’s you can get. It’s 100 proof and has a bite but features bold cherry flavors. Makes for a great Manhattan or over ice.

This is the best deal in rye whiskies. Period.

We like this as the perfect rye for an O'Fashion'd (Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters, Luxardo Maraschino Cherries 1 or 2 wet with syrup and Bitter House Wife Orange Bitter if you're missing the peel), however and lately with the heatwave, just over ice.

The nose on this is very interesting and complex. Great spicy rye flavors on the front of the palate. The finish is almost too spicy turning a bit astringent. However, an ice cube smooths it out and makes it quite nice to drink.

Delicious juice, neat or mixed, it's a must have for your bar! Proof and taste are fantastic as is the price. Definitely worth it and will buy again. Cheers!!

To get a better rye, you have to shell out $ for the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye.

This is the yang to Rittenhouse's yin. Whereas Rittenhouse is bold, punchy and somewhat sweet, this is floral, spicy and more medium-bodied. An excellent mixing rye--it made one of the best Manhattans I've had. In this day and age, to put out a rye of this caliber at this price makes me believe in the spirit gods once again.

Buy this rye, dammit! You won't be sorry.

This one checks all the boxes. Great price. Great taste. Great proof. And you can actually find it. No VBP points required for this tasty bottle. Is it Kentucky owl? No. Is it Willett? Also no. But for under 25 bucks this bottle will be filling your glasses without guilt.

Incredible price for a seriously good rye.

Great value and great sipper. With the price and proof, I thought it’d be perfect for cocktails, but I think this is best neat. Drinks a bit lighter than 100 proof. Bought two based on all the good reviews that have been popping up and no regrets.
