Old Grand Dad 114 Proof Bourbon

This is one of the better values in today's bourbon market. Nothing about it is special, per se, but the 114 proof results in a flavorful, rich pour. The mid-palate is decently sweet - hints of simple syrup/burnt sugar and caramel with a faint layering of vanilla and mild fruitiness that culminates into rye spice and some drier oak flavors. Pretty straight forward, but in a cohesive way. I found it astringent and a bit too hot without a splash of water, which unlocked tat sweeter mid-palate.

Positives are it's very affordable but it lacks flavor.

As a daily sipper its a bit rough around the edges. But it is fantastic as a base for an Old Fashioned. Oak and spice are more prominent than your standard caramel bourbon tones. Mouthfeel is fantastic, being more way more coating than other bottles in its price range.

OGD 114 is a full-bodied, high-rye, no-frills, classic bourbon.
On the nose, you immediately get the Beam peanut funk, along with some heavy baking spice, and some herbal notes.
It has a nice, full mouthfeel. Less sweet than a lot of bourbons, there’s still a bit of brown sugar and caramel. But it is more noticeably spicy from the rye and the proof. It’s not terribly complex, but it no one-note dram, and has a decent finish that hangs out for a bit. 4 stars for a great value!

Old Granddad 114 is a very traditional bourbon. It will not disappoint. Solid flavors on every sip. It is a high quality shelfie. Enjoy it.

This bourbon is excellent. Don't be fooled by the 114 proof. That just means it loaded with flavor. Smooth and long finish.

Nose: I get a lot of outdoor notes, grass, fresh cut/bailed hay, fresh cut wood. It kind of reminds me of michters 10 year. After sitting for 15-20 minutes, vanilla, caramel came out and the ethanol is surprisingly pretty tame/not present on it.

Palate: Creamy oak, not thin at all, actually quite thick/rich, a subtle nuttiness, and at the beginning of the palate its sweet but that doesnt last long. spicy, bitterness is fairly tame/not bad more resembles eating dark chocolate so to me not a negative, not dry,

finish: medium, lingers some, again not dry.

this one is a classic. it has that characteristic higher proof taste, but definitely get some caramel notes. would recommend over ice for anyone that doesn't regularly drink bourbon neat. but i enjoy this one neat. also great in a cocktail.

Smooth with a little heat. My new go-to for jolly-ing up a glass of eggnog.

This is old school, robust bourbon. The near barrel proof gives it lots of flavor and the high rye recipe gives it a spicy punch. Not for those seeking a smooth, easy sipper. Great neat, over ice or in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
