Colonel Raymond B. Hayden named Old Grand Dad bourbon after his grandfather, Basil Hayden. Basil was known for making bourbon with a higher percentage of rye, and today Old Grand Dad is made from Jim Beam’s higher rye bourbon mash bill of 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley.
Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond is aged for a minimum of four years before bottling at 100 proof. The nose leans strongly towards cinnamon spice with some caramel and burnt oak in the background. Sweet and spicy cinnamon leads the palate as well, giving way to notes of dark fruit. The finish brings some caramel sweetness and a pleasant touch of oak.

I'm primarily a Scotch drinker, bit this is a really tasty bourbon. In my top 5 for sure...
I recommend this bottle to old school Bourbon drinkers who want to explore the spicy flavors of a Rye whiskey.
This is a robust, fairly rich bourbon and a pretty good value. However, the more I taste different bourbons, the less I like that raw or underaged grain flavor, usually under 5 years of age. This whiskey has that quality.

This is another of those heavyweight flavors hanging out in the featherweight price point division.
Old Granddad Bottled in Bond has been making my standard old fashions so much more enjoyable... also, now that I think about it, it's been going great in just about any cocktail I've slung up in 2020. Not sure yet if it's because of the character of the drink or the lack-of-character that 2020 has been showing. I think it's probably the former.
As Fred S said in his review, this one is better over ice or in a cocktail than taking it neat... I'll add to that though, that this is pretty freakin' great in a pickle back. the pickle juice really opens up the sinuses, allowing the 100 horse power character to pickle your brainpan in just the right way... Take that, 2020!
Add this to your home bar, it'll be your go-to for countless cocktail hours. And at the price point of $25ish you're not going to be refinancing the house to keep the libations flowing.

This is my favorite sleeper bottle. It is smooth and easy to drink. The price point for the 1L bottle is impossible to beat.
The high rye content shows in the spicy nose and flavors. Very similar to the 114 proof version but not as hot at 100 proof. Better in cocktails or over ice than neat.
Even for bottled in bond, the bite on this one is substantial! I'm mellowing it in a barrel to see if I can smooth it out a bit but even in a manhattan the whiskey is a bit overpowering still.
