R.L. Seale & Co. was founded in 1926 by Reginald Leon Seale, embracing the Barbados tradition of fine aged and blended rums. The landscape of Barbados rum, like many other Islands, was dominated in the earlier part of the 20th century by blends made by merchants, rather than the producers themselves. These merchants would buy bulk rum from the island's distilleries and blend it, selling bottles to consumers from their shops in the island's capital, Bridgetown. The Seale family began their now four generation rum journey in this same way, with Reginald Seale's blending shop, which this bottling pays homage to. Now in the fourth generation, current Seale of note is Richard, most recognized by his work as Master Distiller and Master Blender of Foursquare Distillery, re-opened by the Seale family in 1996. Foursquare's Rums have garnered an almost absurd amount of accolades over the last handful of years, while also building a steady cult following, eagerly anticipating each release.
This rum, one of the few regular release Foursquare bottlings we get at the shop, is a fantastic daily drinker, and a perfect introduction to not just Barbados rum, but great sipping rum in general.
The nose shows treacle and sassafras, baking spices and incense, leading to a palate of toasted caramel, sweet plantain, barrel spice, peppercorn, and brown sugar. Touches of cacao and tropical fruits extend throughout the finish. Aged a minimum of 12 Years on-site at the distillery, under a tropical climate in ex-bourbon barrels. Bottled at 46% ABV without any added sugar or flavors.

Rich and dry with real oak behind it - drinks like a sipper at this age, which is exactly why it makes such a good old fashioned. Hard to believe a 12 year this good comes in under $50.

Loved this rum. Great in a rum in coke or any classic cocktail.
While I like a nice funky rum, I find that the "funk" flavors of this particular rum overpowers most other flavors when mixing, and is funkier than I prefer for sipping as well.
It's not a bad rum, it's very flavorful, and I'm glad I've tried it, but I'm having trouble using it in a way that I enjoy.
Not the best sipping rum I've had, but well worth it's price, I would be happy to receive another bottle as a present.
Just purchased my first bottle of 12 yr R.L.Seale's rum and fell in love! It is pleasant to the nose, tastes of fruit, spices, and a hint of nuts. I first tried two fingers neat and it was amazing, then I tried an ice cube and was surprised that I liked it better neat. Anyone looking for a medium priced rum that is a good sipper, look no further, this is it!
Delicious full flavored rum at an excellent price point. Suited for both neat sipping and cocktails. Well worth the buy and is a great addition to my rum collection.
This is a perfect after-dinner sipping rum to have with a dessert (or cigar). Buttery but not syrupy. Sweet but balanced with heat and fruit flavors. Like drinking a banana chip slightly dipped in caramel. I’m more of a whiskey and tequila/Mezcal person, but this is a quality rum... especially for the price!
Smooth but warm, sweet on the after-taste, clear crisp, no funk! Fabulous!!
It's like eating fondant when you could have gotten buttercream instead. Product description is also inaccurate. The 10 year expression of R.L. Seale has been around and on shelves for a long time. Doorly's 3, 8, 12, and XO are all easy to find on the shelf as well.
