This very New Orleans style drink is actually a proud San Francisco creation, first made in 2004 by Jon Santer, subsequently made drink-famous at Bourbon and Branch. Made with high rye bourbon and coffee liqueur, this version employs a New Orleans inspired Bay Area classic, St. George's NOLA Coffee Liqueur, made using coffee with chicory and spices. San Francisco and New Orleans have always seemed in a way like cultural-spiritual sister cities, both historically weirdos when compared to other major U.S. cities, and that is especially true when it comes to cocktails. Both hard drinking, old school cocktail towns, this drink ties both traditions together perfectly in boozy harmony.
