Sure, you look at the label and think it might be a joke being played on you by some big distillery brand. It's so silly and fun; it has to be bad. Yet, it's a great funky rum!

I recommend you try it as a Rum Manhattan (1.5 ounces Doctor Bird and 0.5 ounces Hamilton 86 or Plantation Original Dark.

As soon I opened the bottle the aroma hit me. I can’t help but be transported to a tropical oasis with all of the mango, coconut, passionfruit aroma. I was concerned from reviews that this wouldn’t be an easy sipper, but it absolutely is. Great value funky alternative to Smith and Cross.

Trust the people when they say this rum is STRONG and FUNKY. I bought this on a whim knowing it was "funky" but I did not expect how potent the funk is. It smells great but the taste did not match the smooth smell. Be prepared on your first sip. Definitely goes well with the 4 oz pineapple juice version of a Jungle Bird (although I would decrease to 3 oz). Anything that calls for a heavy amount of this rum and not much else, I would be cautious of. Once I figured that out, I went from disliking this rum to enjoying it when used correctly. I'll continue to try to find the cocktails where I can add a little bit of this rum to.

I’m just barley understanding what funk is when it comes to rum and omg this thing is way to funky for me, I don’t think it is wise to mix with cocktails or tiki drinks way to overpowering for my taste. If anything drink by itself.

1 1/2 oz Doctor Bird Jamaican Rum
3/4 oz Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
3/4 oz St Agrestis New York Amaro
Stir and serve in an old fashioned glass over a large ice cube.

Was my first time with this style Jamaican rum and my first go at it straight was questioning what exactly did I buy with a mouth full of ether and grass but the shock wore off fast and my tastes acclimated a bit.

But the real discovery was adding to a cocktail that already had rum in it, that this rum indeed delivers that final punch to a drink that gives it that defining tropical flavor. Will keep a bottle on hand if possible.

I'll be honest, my go-to Jamaican pot-still rum is Smith Cross. That being said, it can be a liiiiiitle much for me. Doctor Bird is a more than sufficient - dare I say more refined - alternative. And, at the price, you really can't beat it. Pick it up ASAP.

Excellent rum for tiki drinks great value

You really have to love that Jamaican funk to enjoy this rum, and I do! A ton of harsh estor on the nose with lots of fruit notes gives a little hint as to what is to come. What do we get with the taste A sharp, hogo-rich taste that balances just the tiniest bit of sweetness with a salty crisp and fruity swallow. If you can get past the violence of the nose, this one is going to knock your socks off. It also works extremely well in a tiki cocktail, punching through the juices and syrups and never hiding in the background. Buy a bottle of this.

Very funky rum. Great in a tiki drink, not so much on its own...

Excellent but affordable rum with a unique finish. Perfect for a "Doctor Cocktail"! (2 oz rum, 1 oz Swedish Punsch, 1 oz fresh lime juice, Shake with ice, strain and serve up with a lime twist)

Dr.Bird Mai Tai (barfaith.com). A classic ‘44 Mai Tai, but ALL Dr. Bird. Funky, strong, complicated, everything you love about Dr. Bird.

This one is super funky! I can’t sip on it, but it’s great in tiki cocktails.

Excellent in a swizzle and makes a great Mai-Tai when combined with a dark Jamaican rum. Great value for the price.

I love Dr. Bird. This is NOT a sipping rum. But, it has the perfect funk to stand up to fruit juices in a cocktail like the Jungle Bird!

Many classic tiki drinks have a distinctive flavor... Hogo. This has it in spades. Now our cocktails taste like the real thing and we can have a proper grog at home. Doctor bird is a game-changer.

What a pleasant discovery! Lots of banana, coconut and other tropical flavors—excellent paired with half a lime and a bottle of Jamaican ginger beer. Also amazing on the rocks.
