KoHana Koho Barrel Aged Hawaiian Agricole Rum

$84.50

Manulele Distillery, on the island of Oahu, is making serious waves with their agricole style rums made from native Hawaiian sugar cane varietals, many of which were at risk of being lost forever until the distillery purchased it's fifteen acre site that was once dominated by a Del Monte pineapple plantation, and began cultivating this rare cane. This batch of their barrel aged bottling was made from the native Hawaiian Pilimai variety of sugarcane, and bottled at 45% abv.

Aromas are barrel heavy, with cedar, dusty oak, and pine. There is fruit as well, though,  including citrus peel and berries, along with some butter and a briny note. On the palate, the wood and fruit compete with one another for a few moments before a woody bitterness makes itself known. Anise is prominent, with cinnamon, and black pepper. A lovely hint of sage follows. The finish is long with the wood and licorice persisting for quite a while along with a hint of leather and tobacco.
