New Riff Barrel Strength Single Barrel Rye Whiskey
For their Barrel Strength Single Barrel Rye, New Riff carefully selects exceptional casks of their 95% rye, 5% malted rye mash that have aged at least four years and bottles them at barrel proof without chill filtration. The extremely high rye mash bill shows itself on the spicy nose with scents of rye spice, black pepper, lemon, mint, and licorice. The palate brings the spice promised by the nose with flavors of pepper, mint, clove, and citrus before giving way to some sweet caramel. The pepper and rye spice return for the finish along with some vanilla and mint.
New Riff is located in Newport, Kentucky, just across the Ohio river from Cincinnati. The distillery was founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis and Jay Erisman, who had previously worked together at the Party Source liquor store (Lewis was the owner and Erisman the Fine Spirits Director). Still independently owned and operated, New Riff’s commitment to quality means that all of their whiskies meet the standards of the Bottled-in-Bond Act and are not chill filtered.
