Angel's Envy B&B Private Barrel #230684 Kentucky Bourbon

Angel's Envy has won most of us over at this point when we are looking for an elegant, easy going, but fulfilling sip. For the standard bottling, they use a blend of Port barrels that have seen many finishing rounds already. For their single barrel store picks, they reserve some of the freshest, most honey Port barrels, either totally fresh for huge port character or second fill for a slightly less over the top influence. We've had both in the past, and the fresh is an amazing thing to experience, but for balance we'd go with a quality, still zippy second fill barrel. That's what we did this time, and that beautiful elegant Angel's Envy profile is all over it. The nose opens with rich maple syrup, leather, and molasses. This leads to a palate that welcomes fruity cherry, sorghum, and a good amount of spice, especially cinnamon and dark cocoa. The finish is charred and nicely drying, like a burnt maple without the big sweetness.
