El Jolgorio's Ancestral Edition Mezcals are produced exclusively using traditional, ancestral methods of production, including cooking in earthen pits, hand crushing with wooden mallets, open air fermentation in wooden vats, and perhaps most crucially for imparting a distinct old school, very traditional profile - distillation in small clay pots, which creates super mineral heavy, earthy-rich mezcal, but in extremely small batches.
This batch of Ancestral Arroqueño was produced in El Platanar Gotzengo, San Francisco Sola, Sola de Vega, Oaxaca by Mezcalero Felipe Velasco Jiménez using clay pots. This is juicy, rich, fruity mezcal, with notes of brandied cherry, plum, unripe banana, dark chocolate, and barbecue sauce, alongside more earthy savory notes of mineral clay, rosemary, chipotle peppers, leather, tobacco, and potting soil. Incredibly complex and supremely rewarding.
