Gonzalez Byass La Copa Rojo Vermouth
González Byass has revived the tradition of making red vermouth in the Sherry region from a classic family recipe that has been preserved in the winery’s historic archives since 1896. Based on the original recipe from the 19th century and the original label, La Copa is the return of a brand first registered by González Byass in 1884. A fine traditional red sherry vermouth, La Copa is produced from Oloroso and PX soleras over 8 years and a meticulous selection of botanicals, to achieve a bittersweet, aromatic balance. Enjoy it over ice or in classic cocktails like the Negroni.
Cola brown in color instead of the more typical deep red, it clearly showcases its sherry underpinnings, with rich, sultry PX sherry dominating. Nutty and redolent with that oxidized “old wine” note, the botanicals are clear on the palate, for a balanced, versatile vermouth. Cinnamon notes are prominent, with gentle waves of bitterness emerging on the long, nutty finish. Good stuff!
