A cult classic at this point, Vago's Elote Mezcal, made by the sons of Aquilino Garcia (who first began this tradition), is a very unique distillation. Between normal second and extra third distillation, the batch is infused with roasted corn. Shows a nose full of smoky toasted corn and dry river stones. Body sweet with wood tones and layers of honeycomb, green tropical fruit, and smoke.

I loved how this mezcal tasted. I didn’t want to do too much with it so I mainly had it neat or on the rocks. I did make a riff on a Negroni with it though.
1 oz mezcal vago
1 oz amaro nonino
.5oz Carpano antica
.5 oz punt e Mes
Dash smoked chili bitters
Garnish with grapefruit peel
its a warm smoky hug in a bottle
This stuff is so good. That toasted corn note is my favorite. Makes me feel like I am standing on a corner in a beach town in mexico, eating street tacos and smelling corn getting roasted. It is smokey, but not that smokey.
