The first female founded Scotch company nails delicious, affordable whisky

Like snowflakes, no two spirits are the same, and no two founding stories are either.  Sia's is particularly unique.
She was going through a break-up and began exploring her local whiskey shop as a new hobby.  It didn't take long for her to develop a passion and a palate for great Scotch, but she felt there was a hole in the market for great, affordable blended Scotch.  Necessity is the Mother of invention, and Carin Luna-Ostaseski, Sia's founder, had found her need.
Newly single, she realized she was not at all alone. Droves of people shared her need.  So she did what every 21st century entrepreneur wants to do, but rarely pulls off: crowd funded her first barrel of Whisky.  And with that, she became the first woman to start a Scotch company.

B+B Team picks, SF Summer Edition: Bottles so good they barely make it to the floor

We get new arrivals weekly, and deciding which one to take home is as hard for us as it is for you. This summer there have been dozens of new arrivals, and we've loved them all.

Occasionally, though there are bottles that struggle to make it to the floor because so many of our Bitters + Bottles team stock their home bar with them first.  We save the limited edition whiskey for y'all.  The bottles we tend to covet are the flavor packed cocktail workhorses whose cocktail possibilities are limitless.

Double Gold People’s Choice World Whiskies Awards Winning Distillery 291

Distillery 291 is a true grain-to-barrel-to-bottle producer crafting distinctly Colorado-imbued whiskies in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They’ve been distilling in Colorado Springs for six years now, and in that time they’ve managed to nail a whiskey that is kind of the holy grail of craft – as easy to enjoy as the stuff put out by the big boys, while pulling out flavors that are absolutely unique. Named People’s Choice at the Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival in 2014, 2015, and 2016 – it’s clear they’re on to something big.

Richland Rum - A surprising new arrival from Georgia

Made from Single Estate grown Georgia sugar cane, Richland Rum, creates a field to glass rum by keeping every step of the process in house. After growing their sugar cane with sustainable farming practices in rich, loamy soils that lend their unique terroir, a 100%, unrefined, pure sugar cane syrup is made in enormous cast iron kettles. After fermenting into a syrup wine of 13% ABV, it is copper pot distilled, with only the finest parts reserved for aging. The rum is then aged in virgin Wisconsin white oak barrels for a minimum of 4 years, with each bottling containing unique characteristics inherited from its single barrel.

Amaro like a Distilleria Varnelli boss

Located on the slopes of Mount Sibillini in Eastern Italy, Distilleria Varnelli has been creating intensely Italian liqueurs there since its founding in 1868. Some 150 years later, the families’ intensely Italian four women strong fourth generation continues to insist on 100% natural ingredients and traditional techniques. Elda, Gigliola Simonetta, Mari Donatella and Orietta Maria still personally oversee the secret phases of production, hopefully it’s the very old school extraction of botanicals over a wood fire. The mission: “Offer products that make pleasant moments of social life still more pleasant, with ancient flavors reinterpreted in a contemporary way.” Perfect. If you can’t tell, I’m totally stanning for these D’oro Donne and their quintessential Amaro.

Mosswood Batch #4: Not to be Missed Newest Tasty Limited Edition Local Whiskey

We've spent 4 years trying thousands of spirits as we've curated our shop's collection of delicious spirits.  In that time, we've fallen in love more than a few times.

Sometimes the relationship is situational, great for good time party but maybe not our Sunday night sweatpants Netflix and chill date. Then sometimes we find producers who we think of as the always there for you best friend: safe yet fun to introduce to Mom and Dad, but also a great companion for a night out or in.  The perfect partner that's been hiding in plain sight (we've watched a lot of rom-coms lately, clearly).

The Cadillac of Cognacs is a must on your bar cart

Few liquors are held in as high regard as Cognac. Like hand-crafted furniture and leather goods, much of its fanfare lies in the amount of time, care, and effort that go into its creation. Pierre Ferrand is one of the brands best known for their dedication to craftsmanship from the vine to the bottle.
