Whistle Pig Boss Hog XII Feather & Flame Rye Whiskey

For the twelfth edition of Whistlepig's adventurous, innovative Boss Hog series, the rye whiskey bottler took inspiration from traditional Mexican spirits and flavors. After maturation in new American oak, this MGP sourced rye is finished in pulque curado de cacao* seasoned barrels. On the nose, scents of deep dark chocolate, orange zest, and caramel dominate with a hint of herbal rye poking through. On the palate, citrus combines beautifully with cocoa and earthy oak with a bit of pepper spice lurking. The finish gives the pepper trio its moment to shine, with herbaceous, savory chili pepper backed by earthy dark cacao. 

*These barrels were created by Whistlepig using agave, cacao, and Mexican Chiptepín, Guajillo, and Pasilla peppers. Pulque is a beverage made from the fermented sap of agave; pulque curado is a variety of pulque infused with flavor.
