Mount Gay's Oldest Rums Yet

Mount Gay has quite a history, having opened as the Mount Gilboa Distillery in 1703, making it the oldest known commercial producer of rum in the world. But that pedigree can only get you so far in the mind of today's thinking and tasting drinker. And their good reputation is certainly also built on well made, no-nonsense, additive free rums, long the standard bearer of Barbados rum for much of the world.

The brand's regular lineup, and most of their special releases, have traditionally eschewed age statements, often blending young and old rums together. The new Exceptionally Aged Collection is the first explicitly stated aged expressions, with a 15 and 25 year expression debuting together. They represent a living legacy, born from the foresight and dedicated work of generations of Mount Gay Master Blenders who carefully laid down the spirits that would become tomorrow's exceptional rums. Both expressions were distilled and laid down by former master blender Jerry Edwards, then overseen by his successor Allen Smith, and then further by Smith's successor and current master blender Trudiann Branker. Every drop is 100% distilled, matured, blended, and bottled at the Mount Gay distillery in St. Lucy, Barbados, always without any added sweeteners or flavors.

Mount Gay "Exceptionally Aged" 15 Year Rum Distilled by Mount Gay's former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, maturation was later overseen by former Master Blender Allen Smith and then eventually by current Master Blender Trudiann Branker. Shows notes of zesty grapefruit, buttery pastry, banana, vanilla, plum, caramel, and cinnamon. Mount Gay "Exceptionally Aged" 25 Year Rum Distilled by former Master Blender Jerry Edwards in 1999 on a column still, this was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon casks. Presented at 47% ABV, this very limited expression gives aromas of vanilla, red fruits, rich caramel, citrus, and dark chocolate. The palate delivers an opulent journey of raisin, warm cinnamon, tangy citrus, smooth toffee, roasted nuts, orange zest, nutmeg, cocoa, and gingerbread, culminating in a long, silky finish. Shop →

Mount Gay Eclipse Heritage Rum Eclipse is the embodiment of the Mount Gay style, body and aroma by which Master Blender Trudiann Branker uses to blend every variety of Mount Gay Rum. Distinctive notes of vanilla and banana, with underlying notes of caramel, summer fruit and spice. On the palate an oaky character with slight burnt notes. Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Rum Rich, complex, yet smooth and round. Crafted from intense and aromatic rums and finished in deeply charred ex-Bourbon barrels. On the nose, woody and butter notes are balanced with dried fruit and spices. Bold and aromatic flavors with notes of gingerbread, lychee and toffee. A warm, medium body with a long finish. Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Reserve Rum A small blend of carefully selected mature rums. A beautifully round and complex liquid. Mount Gay Master Blender Madeira Cask Rum This sees Master Blender Trudiann Branker look to Madeira, the beautiful Portuguese island off the coast of Morocco that has made an iconic fortified wine for more than 300 years. Using only column distilled rums, she placed the liquid in seasoned Madeira wine casks for six years, carefully observing how the rum aged over time. Mount Gay Master Blender PX Sherry Cask 21 Year Rum This blend contains some of the oldest rum stocks in the Mount Gay bonds. A classic Bajan blend of pot and column distillates, both had been aged in ex-American whiskey casks for 20 years in Barbados, where both the heat and humidity accentuate the interaction with the casks. This tropical aging process created deeply aromatic flavours of burnt oak and toasted vanilla. It was then finished in PX Sherry casks to develop deep dark notes of stewed fruit, salted nuts, and dark cherry. Shop →
