Hooten Young is a label founded by former Delta Force Sergeant Norm Hooten, made famous by the movie Black Hawk Down. The whiskey is 15 year old bottling of "American Light Whiskey" from Indiana's MGP - that is to say, whiskey from a high corn bourbon mashbill (in this case 99% corn, 1% barley) that is distilled to a higher proof than bourbon and aged in used, rather than new, casks. The effect is a lighter and distinct spirit that has a Cognac like elegance and profile. In this case, it means a whiskey that is more defined by fruit than by intense woodiness or vanilla. Aromas and flavors that come through include baked apple tart, candied apricots, clove, and sweet maple syrup. Bottled at 62.5% abv.
