The third of four Extinct Blends releases, Metropolis is an homage to the bustling cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh, where giant blending vats created some of the most memorable blended Scotch bottlings of the mid century. The blend is created with a backbone of three single malts: an Aberlour malt aged in re-charred American oak, a Miltonduff malt aged in first fill ex-bourbon barrels, and a Bowmore malt aged in refill bourbon barrels. These are combined with a blended malt parcel, a blended Scotch parcel (malt + grain) and a blended grain parcel to recreate the profile of a discontinued blend. On the nose, vanilla and honey give way to fruity pineapple and fig. The palate begins with flavors of apricot and sultana backed by chocolate fudge with light woodsmoke appearing behind the fruit. The finish lingers with sweet fruit, vanilla, and gentle spice.
